Minority Workforce
We're dedicated to building a richly diverse workforce. In 2001, we received
the National Pride Excellence Award from Project Equality, an equal employment
opportunity organization and premier champion of workplace diversity equality.
Block achieved Project Equality's selection standards by:
- Securing a strong equal employment opportunity evaluation
- Serving our working community by locating Block's Service Center in Kansas City's Brush Creek redevelopment neighborhood. The facility's workforce consists of approximately 30 percent minority associates, placing it above Kansas City's 20 percent average.
- Providing diversity awareness and training support to associates
- Establishing employment practices in harmony with Project Equality objectives
And we believe strongly in working with minority companies. In March
2002, one of our associates, Terri Imhoff, Analyst - Strategic Sourcing,
was honored as Kansas City Minority Supplier Council's (MSC) "Buyer
of the Year." The council promotes minority buyers and supplies minority-owned
companies with equal access to purchasing opportunities in the metropolitan
area.
The council honored Imhoff for taking the initiative to include minority-owned
companies as she gathered bids for regular quick printing services at
Block last year.
We proudly support associates involved in diversity professional organizations,
associates like George R. Gaskins, Financial Services product manager
for H&R Block Financial Advisors. Gaskins was honored in March 2002
by Kansas City's Black Achievers Society for his professional accomplishments
and community service.
Gaskins was cited for his professional success including his role in
the development of Block's Wealth Management Asset Account that offers
clients investment advice and tax services for a single fee. Gaskins was
also cited for his community service. He served as coordinator of the
United Negro College Fund Committee and is involved in other Kansas City
community projects.
