How secure is my information?

The security of your information is a top priority at H&R Block. To make sure the information you send over the Internet is secure, we use Secure Transmission Control Protocol, the highest industry standards to safeguard your information. The padlock or key icon at the bottom of your browser window indicates that the Secure Transmission Control Protocol is in effect. We also work closely with the IRS and state tax authorities to protect all of your information. For security reasons, and to make sure no one else can sign in to your account, we never give out or reset passwords over the phone, even at your request. Only you have access to your password. Make sure that you store your password in a safe place because you'll need it each time you sign in to your account.

Will the program check my tax return for errors?

Yes. After you complete your federal return, we'll check your tax return for errors. We'll repeat the process after you complete your state return, too. Our Accuracy Review™ will identify errors in your return and provide instructions to fix your errors. If you ignore your errors, you won't be able to e-file and you might have an inaccurate return.

Can I transfer my prior year tax return or financial information into H&R Block At Home™?

You can import basic information such as your name, address, and dependent information from your prior-year H&R Block At Home™ or TurboTax® online or software tax returns, or TaxACT® online tax return. We also import information that is likely to remain the same from year to year from your W-2s, 1099s, and other tax forms. And if anything has changed, you'll have the ability to update or delete it as you go through the interview.

You can also save time by using the import feature to transfer over financial and payroll information from participating financial institutions (1099's) and payroll providers (W-2's).

Is there free help available while I'm preparing my tax return?

Yes, free help is available within Search. Search provides answers for a broad range of topics, including tax questions, program help, technical support, tax terminology, and IRS regulations. You can access Search by logging into your online account.

Is there an additional charge to e-file my federal tax return?

No. H&R Block provides free e-filing for your return.

If I'm audited by the IRS, how will an H&R Block professional help me?

If you're audited, an H&R Block enrolled agent guides you through what to expect during the IRS tax audit, attends the audit with you, and helps you manage the entire audit experience. They don't provide legal representation but they do provide detailed information and tax expertise. This service is provided for no charge through Worry-free Audit Support.

Do you guarantee the calculations in your program?
We guarantee accurate calculations or we'll reimburse resulting IRS penalties and interest charges (limits apply).
Can I have the cost of the program deducted from my tax refund?

If you e-file your tax return, you may deduct your tax return preparation fees - plus a 1-time processing fee - from your federal refund. To pay using your federal refund, you'll need to:

  • Be receiving a refund on your federal tax return
  • Choose to e-file your tax return
  • Choose to directly deposit your remaining federal tax refund into your bank account of choice
  • Agree to the terms allowing H&R Block Bank to deduct your tax preparation and 1-time processing fee before depositing the balance of your refund into your bank account.

Is there an additional charge to e-file my federal tax return?

The convenience of filing at home meets the confidence of filing with a tax professional.

View FAQ
How long will it take for my tax professional to prepare my Best of Both tax return?

Your tax professional should be able to complete your tax return within 48 hours after first contacting you. This time can vary significantly if:

  • Your tax professional has trouble contacting you.
  • You have delays in obtaining or submitting required information.
What can I expect from the tax professional assigned to my tax return?

Your tax professional will typically contact you within 24 hours to review the information you've submitted and gather any additional documentation needed for your tax return. He or she will talk to you about any additional services available and offer advice specific to your tax situation.

If you're using Best of Both, your tax professional will then complete your tax return and notify you when it's ready for your review and approval. After you approve and pay for your return, your tax professional will e-file it for you or advise you how to print and mail your tax return.

Do I need to mail anything to my Best of Both tax professional when I submit my tax return?

You might need to submit supporting tax documents to your tax professional. You can submit them via:

  • Upload on secure Message Center

  • Mail

  • Fax

  • Drop-off at office

What if I don't have electronic copies of my tax documents?
You can fax or mail copies of your tax documents to your tax professional. Before faxing, print a fax cover sheet to include with your documents. The cover sheet is available via the Main Menu. Or if you have a digital camera or mobile phone with a camera, take a photo of the document(s) and attach it via the Message Center. Each photo must display the entire document and clearly show the text on the document.

  • NOTICE OF CHANGES IN TEMPORARY FDIC INSURANCE
    COVERAGE FOR TRANSACTION ACCOUNTS

All funds in a "noninterest-bearing transaction account" are insured in full by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation from December 31, 2010, through December 31, 2012. This temporary unlimited coverage is in addition to, and separate from, the coverage of at least $250,000 available to depositors under the FDIC's general deposit insurance rules.

The term "noninterest-bearing transaction account" includes a traditional checking account or demand deposit account on which the insured depository institution pays no interest. It also includes Interest on Lawyers Trust Accounts ("IOLTAs"). It does not include other accounts, such as traditional checking or demand deposit accounts that may earn interest, NOW accounts, and money-market deposit accounts.

For more information about temporary FDIC insurance coverage of transaction accounts, visit www.fdic.gov.
